Overview
Social determinants of health (SDoH) are the economic and social conditions that influence almost every aspect of an individual’s care, impacting both health status and health outcomes across a broad spectrum of conditions. In fact, up to 80% of health outcomes are influenced by social and environmental factors. In a recent Castlight study, we found that over 1 in 4 commercially-insured members are negatively impacted by socioeconomic factors. These vulnerable populations are at risk for worse health outcomes, including:
- Up to 3x more visits to the emergency room
- Up to 4x more avoidable hospital admissions
- Up to 50% less utilization of preventive care
